Stack Overflow tripled registrations for its Stack Overflow for Agents product overnight after releasing a ChatGPT plugin, according to an OpenAI Blog post on Oct. 16.

The plugin enables users to discover and set up the product within ChatGPT, which the company says provides a more frictionless installation than traditional Model Context Protocol (MCP) setups. The company also reported that agent creation increased up to 10X following the plugin's release.

Stack Overflow for Agents is part of a knowledge intelligence platform that uses GPT‑6 Astra and GPT‑6 Sol models to unify scattered data from sources such as Google Docs and Slack. The company used Codex to develop the product, which was built by two engineers within a few weeks.

The company is also using Codex to accelerate development for Stack Internal, its enterprise product. According to the OpenAI Blog, the time required to build a single connector was reduced from a typical 3–6 week window to 4 days, with one recent connector completed in a single day.

Stack Overflow is currently exploring the use of OpenAI's Decisions API to automate model routing and configuration. The announcement does not include pricing for the agents product.
