Galaxy Book 6: Panther Lake Powerhouse
The Galaxy Book 6 series is packing heat with Intel’s Panther Lake chips, optimized across three models: the Ultra, Pro, and standard Book 6. Samsung skipped an Ultra last year, but this year’s is making up for lost time. The 16-inch Galaxy Book 6 Ultra can be configured with up to a Core Ultra X9 processor. We're also seeing NVIDIA’s RTX 50 series GPUs with RTX 5070 and 5060 options! Samsung claims a 1.6x CPU and 1.7x graphics performance jump from the previous gen. This is a workstation-class laptop disguised as an ultrabook.
Engadget reports that Samsung completely reworked the thermal architecture, including a wider vapor chamber and redesigned fans. The Ultra gets a dual-path fan for even more efficient GPU cooling. Forget your typical 'thermal throttling'—Samsung's aiming for sustained performance, even under heavy loads. Battery life is also looking stellar, with claims of up to 30 hours of video playback. The Book 6 Ultra also has faster charging, hitting 63% in just 30 minutes. I need to see those burn-in test results, but the numbers look great. Samsung also highlighted a tool that uses AI to help create cut-outs of images for copy-and-pasting across devices, as well as a Note Assist feature to help collate and summarize your notes.
Galaxy Z TriFold: The Foldable Future?
But wait, there's more. Remember the whispers about Samsung's tri-fold phone? It's real, and it's spectacular. The Galaxy Z TriFold boasts a massive 10-inch AMOLED display when fully unfolded, with a 4:3 aspect ratio—perfect for both productivity and binge-watching. Engadget’s Sam Rutherford got hands-on time and reports that the larger display makes multitasking a dream, especially when paired with Samsung's DeX desktop mode. Imagine leaving your laptop at home and rocking this as your primary work device.
Okay, there's a slight tradeoff. The TriFold is bulkier than the Z Fold 7 (10.9 ounces vs. 7.58 ounces, and 12.9mm thick vs. 8.9mm when folded). But Samsung's engineers pulled out all the stops to make the folding/unfolding experience seamless. Two different types of magnets are used to make it as easy to open as the Z Fold 7. The Z TriFold is currently on sale in South Korea. No word yet on official US pricing or availability, but expect a premium price tag.
