Apple, despite its silence on a public-facing AI chatbot, is deeply invested in the technology behind the scenes. New reports detail the existence of internal AI tools aimed at boosting employee productivity, alongside plans to revamp Siri into a fully-fledged AI chatbot later this year. It appears Apple is strategically laying the groundwork to compete in the rapidly evolving AI landscape.

Enchanté: Apple's Internal ChatGPT

According to MacRumors, Apple employees have been leveraging an internal chatbot named 'Enchanté' since November 2025. This tool, described as an "internal ChatGPT-like assistant," provides support for a range of tasks. Employees can use it for brainstorming, code development, proofreading, and accessing general knowledge.

Enchanté runs on Apple-approved models, locally or on private servers, and incorporates Apple Foundation Models, Claude, and Gemini. The platform can analyze uploaded documents, images, and files, and it has access to files stored locally on a Mac. This makes it a powerful tool for accessing and understanding internal documentation. The intent is to encourage employees to use Enchanté as both a test platform and an everyday work tool. Enchanté even houses a comprehensive database of Apple’s internal policies, answering employee questions about everything from conduct guidelines to health benefits.

Siri's AI Transformation

Beyond internal tools, Apple is reportedly gearing up for a major overhaul of Siri. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports that the company plans to transform Siri into its first official AI chatbot with the release of iOS 27 and macOS 27 this fall. The new Siri will replace the current interface, representing a significant departure from its current functionality. This revamp positions Siri to compete with other AI assistants, such as ChatGPT and Google's Gemini.

Previously, Apple tested the waters with tools like the Veritas chatbot for Siri development and the Support Assistant in the Apple Support app. Now, this upcoming release will represent Apple's most ambitious step into the consumer AI chatbot market. Apple has been notoriously cautious about AI, focusing on privacy and control. However, the pressure to compete in the current market seems to have spurred them into action.

Apple's internal adoption of AI chatbots, coupled with the planned Siri overhaul, signifies a major shift in the company's AI strategy. While they've been developing the underlying AI models in private, these moves suggest they're preparing to make a splash in the public AI space. The success of the new Siri will be a critical test of Apple's ability to compete with established AI players and to deliver a user experience that meets the high expectations of Apple consumers.
