Anthropic’s Claude Opus 5.5 became available on Amazon Bedrock and Perplexity Computer on September 22, 2026, as the first model in the new Claude 5.5 family.
The release promises lower per-task costs through reduced token pricing and cheaper cache reads, according to an AWS Machine Learning blog post. The model also introduces adaptive reasoning and built-in safety classifiers for biology, cybersecurity and AI development, similar to those in Anthropic’s Fable 5.1, the post said.
Perplexity Computer users gained immediate access. On the company’s internal Wide-And-Deep-Research evaluation, Opus 5.5 “compares favorably to Fable 5.1 at a fraction of the cost,” CEO Aravind Srinivas wrote on X. He said the model will become the “Standard” Effort orchestrator for all Pro and Max subscribers.
Anthropic researcher Alex Albert, in a separate social post, said the model “writes clearly, it’s fast, and it costs way less.”
The AWS blog states that Opus 5.5 is suited for agentic coding and knowledge work, with improved explainability during longer-running tasks.
